Forest-based materials, ranging from ordinary office paper to thin membranes of nanocellulose, have one thing in common: the manufacturing processes usually deal with very large amounts of water that must be removed. This results in large energy consumption for dewatering and drying. My research aims to increase the understanding of cellulose's interaction with water, from the molecular level to full-scale manufacturing processes.
